AI Surveys Inaccurate, Pew Research Center Study Finds Significant Discrepancies

A new report from the Pew Research Center reveals that AI-generated surveys fail to accurately reflect human opinions. Researchers compared AI-generated responses with actual survey data from the American Trends Panel, finding an average difference of 12 percentage points across nearly 300 questions. In some cases, the discrepancies exceeded 40 percentage points, particularly on complex social and political issues. AI participants also showed a lower tendency to express uncertainty compared to real individuals, indicating a potential overconfidence in its generated results.
