Facebook has been found liable by a jury in New Mexico for violating consumer protection laws, affecting 43 million state residents. The company was accused of deceiving the public about third-party data harvesting following the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Separately, TikTok and its parent company ByteDance agreed to a $100 million settlement in Alabama over claims of designing an addictive platform and misleading users about safety. The settlement resolves accusations that the app pushed violent content to young users, contributing to a teen mental health crisis.
