New Zealand's Mangaweka Cantilever Bridge, built in 1904, has survived over a century of service and is now a protected historic landmark. Initially constructed to cross the Rangitīkei River, it faced closure in 2016 due to structural deterioration. However, strong local support led to its preservation and reopening for pedestrians and cyclists. This ensures the survival of a rare engineering design, as it remains New Zealand's only steel cantilever road bridge and one of only three surviving cantilever bridges in the country.
