Oncologists highlight that India faces a significant cancer burden, with over 14 lakh new cases and nearly 9.2 lakh deaths estimated in 2022. Beyond lifestyle choices, common exposures like tobacco, alcohol, and air pollution are major contributors. Smokeless tobacco, including gutkha and khaini, is particularly prevalent, leading to oral cancers which are the second most common type in India. Tobacco smoking is linked to at least 20 different cancer types. Experts emphasize that addressing these preventable exposures is crucial for cancer prevention in the country.

ऑन्कोलॉजिस्ट्स बताते हैं कि भारत में कैंसर का बोझ बहुत ज़्यादा है। 2022 में 14 लाख से ज़्यादा नए मामले और करीब 9.2 लाख मौतें होने का अनुमान है। जीवनशैली के अलावा, तंबाकू, शराब और वायु प्रदूषण जैसी आम चीज़ें भी कैंसर का बड़ा कारण हैं। गुटखा और खैनी जैसे बिना धुएं वाले तंबाकू का इस्तेमाल बहुत आम है, जिससे मुंह का कैंसर होता है, जो भारत में दूसरा सबसे आम कैंसर है। तंबाकू पीने से कम से कम 20 तरह के कैंसर हो सकते हैं। एक्सपर्ट्स का कहना है कि देश में कैंसर से बचाव के लिए इन रोकी जा सकने वाली चीज़ों पर ध्यान देना बहुत ज़रूरी है।
