Pench Dams At 47.85% Storage, Rabi Irrigation Unlikely For Nagpur
Times of India · india
The Pench project's three dams currently hold only 47.85% of their designed live storage capacity, leading the Water Resources Department to rule out Rabi irrigation for the 2026-27 season. Officials are prioritising drinking water for Nagpur city, emergency reserves, and ongoing Kharif irrigation due to fears of scarcity. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has requested 190 million cubic metres of water until August 31, 2027. After accounting for drinking water needs, industrial demand, evaporation losses, and buffer reserves, only a minimal amount of water is projected to remain, making Rabi irrigation unfeasible.
