Foreign Investors Erase 9 Years of Indian Equity Buying With $64 Billion Outflow
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have wiped out nearly nine years of buying in Indian stocks, with cumulative equity flows since October 2015 remaining virtually unchanged due to a $63.6 billion outflow. This reversal intensified in 2026, with investors selling $32.8 billion in Indian equities, following $18.9 billion in 2025. Higher US Treasury yields, a stronger dollar, and elevated oil prices are cited as key drivers for this reduced conviction. Financial services, autos, and oil and gas sectors have seen the heaviest foreign selling this year.
