Wayanad Records 53% Rainfall Deficit, Faces Drought Concerns
Times of India · environment
Wayanad district in Kerala has once again recorded a significant rainfall deficit, with a shortfall of 53% between June 1 and this year. This marks the second consecutive year the district has experienced over a 50% deficiency, mirroring patterns seen in previous El Nino years that preceded drought situations. The India Meteorological Department attributes this to weaker monsoon winds and a shift in wind direction, preventing moisture from reaching the Western Ghats.
