Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated that substance abuse among children should be viewed as a child protection issue, not solely a public health concern. Speaking at an event in Bihar, he highlighted a Lancet study indicating that one in five Indian teenagers face moderate to high risk of substance abuse. Justice Kant emphasized the necessity of a child-sensitive approach to addiction. This approach aims to safeguard children's physical and mental well-being, dignity, and self-worth, ensuring their restoration to a normal childhood experience including education and trust.

भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत ने कहा कि बच्चों में नशे की लत को सिर्फ़ सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य का मुद्दा नहीं, बल्कि बाल संरक्षण का मसला मानना चाहिए। बिहार में एक कार्यक्रम में उन्होंने लैंसेट की स्टडी का ज़िक्र किया, जिसके अनुसार भारत के हर पाँच में से एक किशोर को नशे का ख़तरा है। जस्टिस कांत ने कहा कि नशे की लत से निपटने के लिए बच्चों के प्रति संवेदनशील रवैया ज़रूरी है। इससे बच्चों का शारीरिक-मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, गरिमा और आत्म-सम्मान बचेगा।
