नई स्टडी के मुताबिक, समंदर का जलस्तर बढ़ने से दुनिया भर में तटीय इलाकों में बाढ़ की घटनाएं अब ज्यादा हो रही हैं। सौ साल पहले के मुकाबले अब ऐसे बाढ़ चार गुना ज्यादा आते हैं। इंसानों की वजह से हुए ग्लोबल वार्मिंग ने ज्वार-भाटे और तूफानों के असर को बढ़ा दिया है, जिससे बाढ़ का खतरा बढ़ गया है। हालांकि, अभी भी कुछ प्राकृतिक कारण स्थानीय बाढ़ की संभावनाओं को प्रभावित करते हैं। दुनिया भर के समुदायों को इन बदलती संभावनाओं के आधार पर अपनी बाढ़ योजना की रणनीतियों पर फिर से सोचना होगा।
