Beloved Kerala Tusker Pallattu Brahmadathan Cremated After Lightning Strike

The mortal remains of Pallattu Brahmadathan, a 54-year-old elephant, were cremated in Keralam's Kottayam district on Monday, October 5, 2026. Thousands gathered at the Pallattu house in Melambara near Pala to pay their last respects to the tusker, who died after being struck by lightning on Sunday evening. Brahmadathan had been a familiar sight at temple festivals across Keralam for nearly three decades. The Forest department conducted a post-mortem examination before the cremation. A similar incident involving a tusker struck by lightning was reported in Pala 12 years ago.

54 वर्षीय हाथी पल्लाट्टु ब्रह्मदत्तन के पार्थिव शरीर का सोमवार, 5 अक्टूबर 2026 को केरल के कोट्टायम जिले में अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया गया। रविवार शाम को बिजली गिरने से मरे इस हाथी को अंतिम विदाई देने के लिए हजारों लोग पाला के पास मेलम्बारा में पल्लाट्टु हाउस में इकट्ठा हुए। ब्रह्मदत्तन लगभग तीन दशकों से केरल भर के मंदिर उत्सवों में एक जाना-पहचाना चेहरा था। अंतिम संस्कार से पहले वन विभाग ने पोस्टमार्टम किया। 12 साल पहले पाला में बिजली गिरने से हाथी की मौत की ऐसी ही एक घटना की सूचना मिली थी।
