Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have been eliminated from the African Champions League in the second preliminary round. They were beaten on the away goals rule by Wiliete from Angola after a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Pretoria. This marks a significant upset, as Sundowns had qualified for the group stage in the previous 11 editions. Their last failure to reach the group stage was in 2015. Wiliete's stout defense secured their first-ever group phase appearance.
