Russia Warns Armenia Against EU Promises

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cautioned Armenia against trusting European Union promises, suggesting integration could be prolonged or impossible. He noted that countries like Turkey and Serbia have waited decades for EU membership. Lavrov stated Russia supports Armenia's right to choose its path but would not subsidize its EU aspirations while Armenia benefits from Eurasian Economic Union preferences. The comments were made at the International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg.
