Wrestlers Use Grass Cutters To Protest Neglected Kolhapur Arena

Times of India · sports

Over 100 wrestlers and enthusiasts gathered at Kolhapur's historic Shahu Khasbaug Kusti Maidan, using grass cutters to clear waist-high weeds. The protest highlighted authorities' neglect of the iconic wrestling ground, which is now littered with debris and unfit for use. Despite a Rs 25 crore allocation for restoration two years ago, the podium remains damaged while a nearby theatre has been rebuilt. Protesters warned of further demonstrations if the ground is not made ready within eight days, fearing the sport's extinction due to negligence.
