Karnataka forest officials are narrowing down the selection for the Mysuru Dasara golden howdah elephant after Mahendra failed an endurance test. Prashantha, a 54-year-old tusker with over 18 years of experience, is a strong contender. Initially, five elephants were shortlisted, but Mahendra was disqualified. The remaining four, including Prashantha, Ekalavya, and Gopi, performed well in various tests and gained weight. The final decision rests with authorities in Bengaluru, considering factors like physical build, temperament, and obedience for carrying the 1,000kg howdah.
