Chhattisgarh HC Acquits Four Accused In 2009 Suicide Case

The Chhattisgarh High Court has acquitted four individuals accused in a 2009 suicide case, ruling that humiliation alone does not constitute abetment of suicide. The court stated that without proof of a clear intention to instigate the victim to take her own life, a conviction cannot stand. The accused had assaulted the victim, Anita Ravi, and her prospective husband, leading to Anita's alleged humiliation and subsequent death by consuming poison.

छत्तीसगढ़ हाई कोर्ट ने 2009 के एक आत्महत्या मामले में चार लोगों को बरी कर दिया है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि सिर्फ़ अपमानित करना आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाना नहीं माना जा सकता। कोर्ट ने कहा कि अगर यह साबित न हो कि किसी की साफ़ नीयत थी कि वह पीड़ित को आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाए, तो सज़ा नहीं हो सकती। आरोपियों पर आरोप था कि उन्होंने पीड़ित अनिता रवि और उसके मंगेतर के साथ मारपीट की थी, जिससे अनिता का अपमान हुआ और उसने ज़हर खाकर जान दे दी।
