Couple Replaces Lawn With Native Plants; Wildlife Flourishes After Five Years

Times of India - India · india

A couple in Highland Park, Illinois, transformed their quarter-acre property by replacing a conventional lawn with over 130 species of native plants. Starting in late 2020 with little gardening experience, they gradually replaced most of their grass over five years, learning through trial and error. Their native garden now attracts a diverse array of wildlife, including foxes, bats, butterflies, and fireflies. This personal effort has also inspired neighbours to reconsider their own gardens and adopt similar wildlife-friendly practices.
