सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि प्रोफेशनल कोर्स में दाखिला लेने वाले छात्रों को शुरुआत से ही अपने सटीक खर्चों के बारे में पता होना चाहिए, और बीच सत्र में फीस बढ़ाने की इजाजत नहीं होगी। जस्टिस पी.एस. नरसिम्हा और आलोक अराधे की बेंच ने कहा कि प्रोफेशनल प्रोग्राम करने वाले छात्रों को शुरुआत में ही अपनी वित्तीय देनदारी के बारे में पता होना चाहिए। अप्रत्याशित आर्थिक परिस्थितियों या वैधानिक बदलावों के कारण ही बीच में फीस बढ़ाई जा सकती है। फीस-निर्धारण समितियों को लागत का अनुमान लगाने और समय पर निर्णय लेने के लिए लगातार काम करना चाहिए, ताकि छात्रों की निश्चितता और गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा के लिए संस्थानों की जरूरतों के बीच संतुलन बना रहे।
