Buxa Tigress Returns to Enclosure; Focus Shifts to Second Phase of Reintroduction
Times of India · environment
A tigress, recently brought from Bihar's Valmiki, has been returned to a 2.2-hectare enclosure within the Buxa Tiger Reserve in north Bengal. This marks a significant step in the state's first tiger reintroduction project. The next phase involves introducing a male tiger, likely from Valmiki by December, pending approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority. Forest officials are also monitoring potential movements of male tigers from Bhutan-Assam forests. The tigress spent ten days in Assam's Raimona before her capture and return.
