CM Vijay: Deferring Bypolls Against Public Interest

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay informed the Madras High Court that deferring elections to five assembly constituencies due to pending election petitions would be against public interest. He argued that a plea to stall byelections is an individual's interest, not public interest. The Chief Minister's counsel stated that stalling elections is only applicable when just two candidates contested.

तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री सी जोसेफ विजय ने मद्रास हाई कोर्ट को सूचित किया कि लंबित चुनाव याचिकाओं के कारण पांच विधानसभा सीटों के उपचुनाव स्थगित करना जनहित के खिलाफ होगा। उन्होंने तर्क दिया कि उपचुनाव रोकने की याचिका एक व्यक्ति का हित है, न कि जनहित। मुख्यमंत्री के वकील ने कहा कि चुनाव रोकने का नियम केवल तब लागू होता है जब केवल दो उम्मीदवार मैदान में हों।
