Nearly 2,000 MBBS Seats Vacant Across India; Colleges Seek Cut-off Reduction

Times of India · education

Approximately 2,000 MBBS seats remain unfilled across India, prompting state governments and medical colleges to request the National Medical Commission (NMC) to allow a mop-up admission round. Many private institutions and some government quota seats have found no takers. Deemed universities are also lobbying for reduced eligibility cut-offs due to around 1,000 vacant seats. This situation highlights a significant gap between qualifying for medical seats and affording the high fees charged by private colleges, with some institutions seeing their closing ranks drop considerably.
