Sugar Price Rise Due To Over-Estimation, Not Ethanol

NDTV · top

India's sugar prices have risen by 16%, attributed to over-estimation rather than ethanol production. In November 2025, the government permitted sugar mills to export 15 lakh tonnes. More recently, India has allowed 10 lakh tonnes of raw sugar to be imported duty-free. This situation highlights the impact of supply-demand miscalculations on commodity prices and consumer costs.
