Lawyers Seek Action Against Chief Election Commissioner

A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a petition seeking criminal prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for allegedly making unilateral decisions regarding the SIR drive. Another lawyer has approached the attorney general for permission to file a contempt petition against the CEC. The petition claims modifications to voter registration forms, including mandatory ancestry conditions for young voters, were unauthorized and illegal. It argues that tampering with electoral rolls is a cognizable offense, and the CEC cannot claim immunity for such acts.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट के एक वकील ने मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (CEC) ज्ञानेश कुमार के खिलाफ़ SIR ड्राइव को लेकर एकतरफा फैसले लेने के आरोप में आपराधिक मुकदमा चलाने की अर्ज़ी डाली है। एक दूसरे वकील ने CEC के खिलाफ़ अवमानना याचिका दायर करने की इजाज़त के लिए अटॉर्नी जनरल से संपर्क किया है। याचिका में कहा गया है कि मतदाता पंजीकरण फॉर्म में बदलाव, जिसमें युवा मतदाताओं के लिए अनिवार्य वंशानुगत शर्तें शामिल हैं, अनधिकृत और अवैध थे। यह तर्क दिया गया है कि मतदाता सूची से छेड़छाड़ एक संज्ञेय अपराध है।
