Madurai Market Traders Frustrated by Lack of Basic Facilities
Times of India · india
Traders and customers at the Thiruparankundram vegetable market in Madurai are frustrated by the complete absence of basic civic infrastructure. The market, established 25 years ago and housing 125 shops, suffers from a lack of proper drinking water and functional toilet facilities. Despite paying daily rent, vendors report severe water scarcity and poor hygiene, with damaged roofs causing leaks and unmanaged garbage creating muddy pathways during monsoons. The disruption of the bus stand and parking issues have also crippled livelihoods.
