Senegal's opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has strongly criticised the nation's debt-tackling mechanism, predicting hardship for the population. He stated that Senegal did not need to rely on the G20 Common Framework for a simple debt reprofiling, calling it an austerity budget designed to repay hidden debts. Sonko argued that the approach imposes "conditionalities" evident in the proposed 2027 budget, which drastically cuts social spending and investment. He accused the IMF of being an "accomplice to the hidden debt" and declared his party's rejection of the plan.
