Asha Kirana Initiative Conducts Over 2.5 Lakh Cataract Surgeries in Karnataka

The Asha Kirana eyecare initiative has successfully performed over 2.5 lakh cataract surgeries in Karnataka since 2022, as reported by the World Health Organisation, the State government, and OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. The program has also facilitated 14 million primary vision screenings and distributed more than 4.5 lakh free spectacles across eight districts. A significant achievement includes the integration of 393 vision centres, known as Drishti Kendras, into the public health system to provide community-based eyecare. This initiative aims to prevent avoidable blindness by bringing essential eye services closer to people.

वर्ल्ड हेल्थ ऑर्गनाइजेशन, राज्य सरकार और OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, आशा किरण आईकेयर पहल ने 2022 से कर्नाटक में 2.5 लाख से ज़्यादा मोतियाबिंद सर्जरी सफलतापूर्वक की हैं। इस कार्यक्रम ने 14 मिलियन प्राथमिक दृष्टि जांच की सुविधा भी दी है और आठ जिलों में 4.5 लाख से ज़्यादा मुफ्त चश्मे बांटे हैं। एक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि 393 दृष्टि केंद्रों, जिन्हें दृष्टि केंद्र के नाम से जाना जाता है, को सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य प्रणाली में एकीकृत करना है ताकि समुदाय-आधारित आईकेयर प्रदान की जा सके। इस पहल का उद्देश्य लोगों के करीब आवश्यक नेत्र सेवाएं लाकर रोकी जा सकने वाली अंधापन को रोकना है।
