Maharashtra Tiger Deaths Missing From National Database, Court Told

Times of India · environment

A court-appointed amicus curiae has informed the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court that approximately 20 tiger deaths recorded in Maharashtra's official records between 2021 and January 2026 are not present in the NTCA mortality database. Conversely, four deaths listed on the national portal are missing from state records. This discrepancy, highlighted via an RTI application, is significant as NTCA is mandated to maintain a centralized tiger mortality database. The court has directed NTCA to submit a reply within three weeks.
