Karnataka Drought Halves Mulberry Yield Amid Thrips and Mite Attacks

The Hindu · india

Karnataka has experienced a significant drop in mulberry yield, with farmers and sericulture officials reporting a 50% reduction due to drought conditions. The dry spell has exacerbated attacks by thrips and mites on mulberry plants, severely impacting leaf production. This decline has also led to a decrease in silk cocoon production, with the Ramanagara market seeing a drop from 60 tonnes daily to 40 tonnes. Officials are advising farmers to spray neem oil, though free supply is still under consideration.
