The US economy expanded at a 2.2% annual pace in the second quarter, exceeding initial estimates of 1.5% and surprising economists. This growth was primarily fueled by a robust increase in consumer spending, which rose 3.8%, and a significant 9% jump in business investment, particularly related to artificial intelligence. Imports, however, acted as a drag, reducing overall growth by nearly 1.7 percentage points. Despite global uncertainties, the US economy demonstrated resilience, with underlying strength measures showing a strong 4.6% increase.
