Disabled People Face Financial Exclusion Due To Inaccessible Banking And Insurance Services
Times of India · business
Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) are struggling to access basic financial services like banking and insurance due to significant structural and operational barriers. A survey revealed that over 71% of PwDs have never applied for health insurance, citing lack of information and unaffordable premiums. Banks also present challenges, with communication barriers and staff unfamiliarity delaying transactions and loan applications for individuals with hearing or visual impairments. Digital platforms further exacerbate these issues, with app updates disrupting accessibility features and ATMs lacking modern accommodations, leaving many excluded from financial security.
