The Supreme Court has refused to grant an interim suspension of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, rejecting a plea from petitioners. The court questioned how the Election Commission would function if its chief were suspended, noting that the remaining two commissioners could potentially manage affairs. A bench led by CJI Suryakant issued notices to the central government and the Election Commission, seeking their responses. The court also stated it would examine 14 decisions allegedly made by the EC despite objections from other commissioners, to ensure they comply with legal procedures.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने याचिकाकर्ताओं की अर्जी खारिज करते हुए मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ज्ञान प्रकाश कुमार के निलंबन की अंतरिम राहत देने से इनकार कर दिया है। कोर्ट ने सवाल उठाया कि अगर मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त को निलंबित कर दिया गया तो चुनाव आयोग कैसे काम करेगा, और कहा कि बाकी दो आयुक्त मिलकर काम संभाल सकते हैं। सीजेआई सूर्यकांत की अगुवाई वाली पीठ ने केंद्र सरकार और चुनाव आयोग को नोटिस जारी कर जवाब मांगा है। कोर्ट ने यह भी कहा कि वह चुनाव आयोग के 14 ऐसे फैसलों की जांच करेगा जो कथित तौर पर अन्य आयुक्तों की आपत्ति के बावजूद लिए गए थे, ताकि यह सुनिश्चित हो सके कि वे कानूनी प्रक्रियाओं का पालन करते हैं।
