Methanol Found in Alcohol Linked to Deaths

The Forensic Science Laboratory in Dimapur has detected methanol in samples of seized alcohol linked to the deaths of nine people in Tuensang. Police submitted the samples after the suspected spurious liquor incident earlier this month. The FSL confirmed the presence of methanol qualitatively but could not quantify its concentration due to unavailable instruments. Further quantitative analysis is underway at a central laboratory to determine if the methanol levels exceed permissible limits. Police are investigating the supply chain and distribution of the suspected beverages.
