Srijit Mukherji Acquires Rights to Adapt Arnab Ray's Supernatural Thriller Shakchunni

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji's production house, Matchcut Productions, has acquired the rights to Arnab Ray's 2024 supernatural thriller novel, "Shakchunni." Mukherji expressed his long-standing desire to work with Ray's writing, having previously considered adapting "The Mahabharata Murders" and "Yatrik." The novel, set in 1940s Bengal during the Great Famine, explores Bengali folklore and a terrifying haunting that disrupts a family's life. Mukherji is considering developing "Shakchunni" as either a film or a web series, with the format yet to be finalized.
