Texas Farmer Grows Sheep Flock to 10,000 by Grazing Solar Farms
Times of India - India · india
JR Howard transformed his struggling Texas farm by managing 10,000 sheep across 40,000 acres of solar farms. Initially owning just 27 sheep, Howard secured a contract with a solar developer to graze his flock on the land, controlling vegetation growth. This innovative approach, known as solar grazing or agrivoltaics, has become a viable business model for both renewable energy companies and farmers facing rising costs and drought. Energy companies benefit from cheaper, lower-risk vegetation management compared to traditional mowing, while Howard earns income from grazing contracts and livestock sales.
