NASA Tests Venus Probe Model to 869°F in Pennsylvania Furnace

Times of India · science

NASA engineers have successfully tested an engineering model of the DAVINCI Venus descent probe, heating it to 869°F (465°C) in a Pennsylvania furnace. The yoga-ball-sized model endured six thermal cycles, simulating descent through Venus's atmosphere, without sustaining damage. This test, conducted between and, assessed the probe's ability to insulate its scientific instruments from extreme heat. While a significant engineering milestone, it does not yet confirm the complete flight spacecraft is ready for launch.
