Backyard Hobby Becomes World's Longest Rideable Miniature Railway

What began as a backyard hobby by Oregon hobbyist Ed St. John has transformed into Train Mountain, the world's longest rideable miniature hobby railway. Initially called Over-The-Hill Live Steamers, the project expanded when neighbor Quintin Breen bought surrounding land. The two railroads were joined in 1992, eventually growing to span 32 miles of track across 2,200 acres. Now a nonprofit, Train Mountain Institute preserves railroad education and history, hosting major international gatherings and featuring a museum with full-sized rail cars.
