India Opposes Negative Portrayal at UN Using Unverified Allegations

Hindustan Times · world

India has asserted at the UN that human rights should not be used for political pressure or selective targeting. Deputy Secretary Barkha Tamrakar stated that engagement with human rights mechanisms must be guided by dialogue and transparency, not by unverified allegations or incomplete statistics. India opposes attempts to create a negative characterisation of the world's largest democracy based on such information. This comes amid concerns raised by UN human rights experts regarding the response to recent youth-led protests in New Delhi.
