Durga Puja Pandal Highlights Nepal Floods, Environmental Risks

Times of India · environment

A Durga Puja pandal in Dumka, India, has recreated the devastation caused by floods in Nepal to raise awareness about ecological destruction and the exploitation of natural resources. Organized by the Daninath Mandir Puja Samiti, the pandal features submerged houses and rescue teams, with an entrance designed to immerse visitors in a flood-hit landscape. Organizers have linked the theme to alleged illegal sand mining along the Mayurakshi river and authorities' inaction. The committee stressed that environmental degradation and uncontrolled resource extraction increase vulnerability during extreme weather events.
