The two occupants escaped unharmed after the road caved in near an underground metro construction site. Officials suspect the operation of a tunnel boring machine may have caused the land subsidence, as underground utilities had been rerouted. The incident led to traffic diversions and congestion, with the car later removed and the sinkhole filled with concrete.

गुरुवार सुबह चेन्नई की ओल्ड महाबलीपुरम रोड पर टाइडल पार्क के पास एक कार सिंकहोल में गिर गई, जिससे भारी ट्रैफिक जाम हो गया। अंडरग्राउंड मेट्रो निर्माण स्थल के पास सड़क धंसने के बाद दो लोग बाल-बाल बच गए। अधिकारियों को शक है कि टनल बोरिंग मशीन के संचालन से जमीन धंस गई होगी, क्योंकि भूमिगत उपयोगिताओं को पहले ही बदला जा चुका था। इस घटना से यातायात को दूसरी ओर मोड़ा गया और जाम लग गया, बाद में कार को हटा दिया गया और सिंकहोल को कंक्रीट से भर दिया गया।
