The 1928 film 'The Loves of a Mogul Prince' is highlighted as the earliest known cinematic exploration of the legendary Anarkali and Prince Salim romance. While the historical existence of Anarkali is debated, cinema has played a crucial role in immortalizing her story for nearly a century. This forgotten film predates later popular adaptations like Nandlal Jaswantlal's 'Anarkali' (1953) and the classic 'Mughal-e-Azam' (1960), which further cemented the legend in Indian popular culture.
