A Mumbai couple, Raghav and Garima, have left their city lives to run a homestay in Uttarakhand's Kotabagh. Raghav, a former pilot, explained the costs involved in building a home in the mountains. He estimates construction costs at approximately ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 per square foot, meaning a 1,000 sq ft house could cost between ₹25 to ₹30 lakh. This estimate excludes land purchase and other potential expenses like material transport. They are also exploring natural building methods like mud houses.
