US Regulator Finds Nine Large Banks Denied Services Based On Beliefs

Business Standard · business

A US regulator has found that nine major banks, including JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, implemented policies between 2020 and September 2025 that restricted banking services for certain customers. These policies allegedly led to "debanking and discrimination" based on political, religious, or social views. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency stated that broad reputation risk policies disadvantaged Americans and restricted access for industries like oil and gas and firearms. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will also investigate compliance with federal consumer financial laws.
