Supreme Court Questions Minors' Social Media Contracts

The Hindu · india

The Supreme Court questioned how children can hold social media accounts, as the underlying contracts are legally void. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant noted that minors are incompetent to enter contracts under Indian law, making such agreements void ab initio. The court asked the government to ensure platforms adhere to an 18-year minimum age threshold for memberships, aligning with Indian law. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that action would be taken to address these concerns.
