Times of India · business
Air India's MD and CEO Tewolde Gebremariam has established a multidisciplinary team to identify cost-saving opportunities on a full-time basis. The airline reported a significant loss of approximately $2.3 billion in 2025-26, contributing to a total loss of about $5.7 billion since the Tata Group's acquisition in January 2022. Gebremariam emphasized the need for employee participation and a mindset of frugality to enhance financial resilience. Global factors like oil prices and geopolitical challenges, compounded by a depreciating rupee and airspace closures, have impacted carriers, with Air India facing additional issues.
