Rock Machine: The Renegades Who Changed Indian Rock Forever

Business Standard · entertainment

Formed in 1984 in Bombay, Rock Machine began as a covers band before shifting to original songs, releasing India's first all-original rock album, 'Rock 'n' Roll Renegade,' in 1988. Despite earning a modest ₹30,000, their track 'Top of the Rock' gained traction on MTV Asia, with bootleg copies spreading widely. By 1993, the band evolved into Indus Creed, experimenting with Indian instruments and achieving further MTV success with 'Pretty Child.' After disbanding in 1997, they reunited in 2010, releasing a new album in 2012.
