Supreme Court Stays Trial Proceedings Against Rahul Gandhi in 2018 Defamation Case
Times of India · politics
The Supreme Court has stayed trial proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case stemming from his 2018 remarks about Prime Minister Modi. Gandhi had approached the top court after the Bombay High Court refused to quash the case. His lawyer argued that similar issues are pending before the court, including a case involving Shashi Tharoor. The bench issued a notice on Gandhi's plea and ordered a stay on further proceedings in the trial court. Gandhi had allegedly called Modi 'commander-in-thief' in September 2018.
