Govt Admits Drug Pricing Problem To Supreme Court

The government has admitted to the Supreme Court that exorbitant drug pricing is a significant problem affecting patients. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that efforts would be made to address the issue, seeking time for further consultations. The Supreme Court highlighted that taxpayers' money is also wasted as corporate hospitals are reimbursed inflated medicine costs under government welfare schemes. The court questioned why pharmaceutical companies fix such high MRPs, leading to suffering for the common man.

सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट में माना है कि दवाओं की बहुत ज़्यादा कीमत मरीज़ों के लिए एक बड़ी समस्या है। सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने कोर्ट को भरोसा दिलाया कि इस मुद्दे को सुलझाने की कोशिश की जाएगी और आगे की सलाह-मशविरे के लिए समय मांगा। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि सरकारी कल्याण योजनाओं के तहत कॉर्पोरेट अस्पतालों को दवाओं की बढ़ी हुई कीमतें चुकाई जाती हैं, जिससे टैक्स देने वालों का पैसा भी बर्बाद होता है। कोर्ट ने सवाल उठाया कि दवा कंपनियां इतनी ज़्यादा एम.आर.पी. (MRP) क्यों तय करती हैं, जिससे आम आदमी को परेशानी होती है।
