Small Data Centres Crucial To Bridge AI Divide, Says IIT Madras Director

IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti stated that deploying small data centres, alongside large ones, is essential to bridge the AI divide across India. He explained that while large language models require significant resources for training, smaller data centres, or pico-clouds, are sufficient for using these models. This approach aims to ensure responsible AI adoption, preventing adverse impacts on national energy and natural resources. IIT-M is also producing 500 videos on AI's positive impact and exploring job reimagining in the AI era.

IIT मद्रास के निदेशक वी कामकोटि ने कहा कि भारत में AI के अंतर को पाटने के लिए बड़े डेटा सेंटरों के साथ-साथ छोटे डेटा सेंटरों की तैनाती भी ज़रूरी है। उन्होंने समझाया कि बड़े भाषा मॉडल को प्रशिक्षित करने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण संसाधनों की आवश्यकता होती है, लेकिन इन मॉडलों का उपयोग करने के लिए छोटे डेटा सेंटर, या पिको-क्लाउड, पर्याप्त हैं। इस दृष्टिकोण का उद्देश्य जिम्मेदार AI अपनाने को सुनिश्चित करना है, जिससे राष्ट्रीय ऊर्जा और प्राकृतिक संसाधनों पर प्रतिकूल प्रभाव को रोका जा सके। IIT-M AI के सकारात्मक प्रभाव पर 500 वीडियो भी बना रहा है और AI युग में नौकरियों के पुनर्कल्पन की भी पड़ताल कर रहा है।
