An SIT investigation into the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal stampede, which killed 19 people, has uncovered multiple crowd management failures. Lapses included a locked emergency door, obstructions near the exit, inadequate lighting, and temporary stalls too close to the passage. The narrow exit, measuring just 2.7 metres at its tightest, became a bottleneck when rain caused a crowd surge. The club's treasurer, arrested for allegedly announcing the pandal would collapse, is suspected of triggering the panic. A judge-led committee will further examine the roles of police and fire services.
