Delhi's Air Pollution Requires Year-Round Efforts

Delhi's government has again announced familiar winter measures to combat air pollution, including construction bans and vehicle restrictions. However, these actions are seen as insufficient, akin to applying a bandage to a serious wound. Despite identifying dust as a key pollution source last year, major infrastructure projects continued. The city's public transport system remains inadequate, with insufficient buses and limited metro reach. Pollution control efforts also tend to fade as winter ends, failing to provide a consistent solution for the 23 million residents.

दिल्ली सरकार ने प्रदूषण से लड़ने के लिए फिर से सर्दियों वाले उपाय बताए हैं, जैसे निर्माण पर रोक और गाड़ियों पर पाबंदी। लेकिन ये कदम एक बड़ी चोट पर पट्टी बांधने जैसे लगते हैं। पिछले साल धूल को प्रदूषण का बड़ा कारण बताया गया था, फिर भी बड़े इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रोजेक्ट चलते रहे। शहर का पब्लिक ट्रांसपोर्ट भी काफी नहीं है, बसें कम हैं और मेट्रो की पहुँच भी सीमित है। सर्दियों के खत्म होते ही प्रदूषण रोकने के उपाय भी फीके पड़ जाते हैं, जिससे 23 करोड़ लोगों के लिए कोई पक्का हल नहीं निकल पाता।
