Al Jazeera · world

Families in Port Sudan are facing severe water shortages, forcing them to spend their entire monthly salaries on this essential resource. Amina Khalafallah, a resident, spends 10,000 Sudanese pounds daily for water, equivalent to her full salary. The collapse of the Arbaat Dam in August 2024 exacerbated the crisis, leaving neighbourhoods reliant on expensive trucked water deliveries. The city's water supply now meets less than 40 percent of demand, impacting millions and increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
